CAMPAIGNS TO REDUCE SINGLE-USE PLASTICS
Humans produce 300 million tons of plastic each year, worldwide, half of which is for single-use items. Our addiction to plastic is having a devastating impact on our oceans, our wildlife, and our health.
We are calling on schools to get creative — design and implement a campaign to ban single-use plastics at your school or throughout the island and sustain it for a year (and beyond).
The goal is to spearhead a long-term movement that drives itself and becomes routine for both the students and the staff, embedding the campaign into the identity of the school and surrounding community.
POTENTIAL ACTIVITIES
Run a campaign for guesthouses, visitors and tourists to participate in a plastic-free journey
Work with shops and community members to ban disposable cups, straws and cutlery from the island by introducing sustainable alternatives
Talk with local shops to replace plastic bags with reusable totes
RESOURCES NEEDED
A thoughtful mind to produce a campaign that will permeate throughout the island
Community involvement to source alternatives to plastic bags like cloth totes
Shop owner and guesthouse involvement to implement changes to their businesses
