Boats are a source that contribute directly to marine plastic pollution and will be among those most impacted by it. Fishing boats that go on long duration trips to even vessels that go on short trips will use single-use plastics on every trip they take. Engaging with, educating the fishermen and intercepting their plastics will greatly reduce the number of single-use plastics that are thrown overboard or end up in the land fill.

 
 

HOW

  • Keep a log of all boats on the island

  • If they are fishing boats, ensure that they are plugged in to our fishing vessel program

  • If any assistance can be offered, ensure that it is available to the fishermen

 

MEASURE

  • Percentage of boats engaged for interception regularly by the end of year
