The goal of this is to identify the trees native to the island as well as to log the numbers of these trees. This will provide students with knowledge of the different trees and plant life in their area and witness the richness of life on the island. In addition, students will be aware of things such as soil erosion, while keeping an active record of the death, removal and planting of trees throughout their island.

POTENTIAL ACTIVITIES

  • In class groups, identify all the main trees in the island with English, Dhivehi and Scientific names

  • Identify which trees are planted, cut down or moved that year

  • Calculate the age of trees
